CHECKLIST
When preparing to apply for a home mortgage, you should be aware of some standard documentation that most lenders will ask to see. Here is a list of items you will probably need for a formal loan application:
- W-2 for past two years and current period pay stub
- If self-employed, tax returns for the prior two years and balance sheet for your company
- Name and address of employer
- Last two months’ bank statements
- Latest investment statements
- Home purchase contract (for home purchase mortgages only)
- Mortgage statements, homeowner’s policy and title policy on current home (for refinance loans only)
- Divorce decree and child support documentation, if applicable (your lender will tell you if it applies)
There are some loan programs, called “stated” programs because they rely on what the applicant states, that require only some of the information listed above. Your lender may also require other documentation once it begins to process your loan.
